Peggy's obituary
Peggy led a fulfilling life as a licensed practical nurse specializing in several areas, including geriatric care management and long-term care. In addition to her specializations, Peggy’s research interests include Parkinson’s disease and forms of dementia.
Peggy’s mother encouraged her to go into the field of nursing. When she was just 15 years old, Peggy worked as a nursing assistant in a nursing home. She later received her certified nurse assistant certificate at 19 years old. Peggy volunteered at Hendrix Health Care Center in Double Springs, AL through her teenage years. While doing so, she was awarded the ‘Teen Volunteer of the Year’ by the Alabama Nursing Home Association in 1991. She also has experience working as a hospice nurse, as a group home manager for 4 women with intellectual disabilities, and as a volunteer with the Red Cross.
When asked why she chose a career in nursing, Peggy stated that she had been raised around nursing homes since she was a child. She considers working with the elderly to be her calling. At the start of each day, she knows that she is needed and that she can make a difference. For this reason, she treats each patient like family, giving them the care that she would want her loved ones to have.
As for her educational experience, Peggy graduated from Addison High School with her high school diploma in 1991. She then went on to earn her nursing degree from Bevill State Community College in Hamilton, Alabama in 2003. Peggy was currently enrolled at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle, Maine in the RN and BSN program with an anticipated graduation date of December 20, 2021..
Peggy currently served as a service officer of the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA). The ALA is the largest organization in the world dedicated to veteran service for women.
Peggy was born in Haleyville, Alabama. She enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitching, and watching true crime documentaries in her spare time. Her favorite movies were Where the Heart Is, Prey for Rock & Roll, and Trainwreck. Her favorite type of music is heavy metal, pop, and ‘80s & ‘90s rock. What’s more, her favorite place to vacation was in Cancun, Mexico.
Peggy had a wonderful life and according to her, it does not take much to make her happy. Scott and Peggy were married on June 17, 2018. The short time they had together was special and you could see it when the two were together. She is survived by her loving husband, Scott A. Brewer of Houlton, Maine, who was with her during her final days.
She leaves behind her children: Hugh Harper of Alabama, Nikki Harper of Alabama and step-son Kyle Brewer of Houlton, Maine; her parents Louis and Bobby Ayers of Houston, Alabama; mother-in-law Linda Brewer of Houlton, Maine; brother, Johnny Ayers and wife, Susie of Alabama; and nieces Nevaeh, Josie and Brooklyn Ayers of Alabama.
Funeral services will be held in Alabama at a later date.
