Peggy's obituary

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Peggy Sue Adams on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022. She blessed our lives with 58 years of her love and laughter—she will be desperately missed by all those that were lucky enough to have known her. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss; she was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.

Peggy was born Peggy Sue Johnson on May 5th, 1964 to the late Harley J. and Donna R. (Bowman) Johnson, the youngest of their five children. She would attend and graduate from Bixby High School in 1982, participating in the school’s musicals for three years and working as part of the yearbook staff for four—she was proud to have been co-editor her senior year.

Around that time, she would get a job at Doc’s Grocery Store, as many others her age would—including a handsome guy a few years older than her that had gone to the same school but ran in different circles and had graduated earlier than her—and it was there that she would meet the love of her life, Barry. They would wed in July of 1985, and welcome three children together: Jessica in 1987, Andrea in 1989, and Mason in 1995. Although she held a few different odd jobs throughout her life, there was nothing more that she enjoyed than being an amazing mother, and “Aunt Peggy” to both the nieces and nephews she adored, and later their children as well.

Peggy was known for being an incredible cook and baker, passing these traditions down to her children (who now make way too much food for others as well!). She also enjoyed cross stitch and making potholders as gifts for family and friends. Anyone who knew Peggy knew she was the most loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter a family could ask for. No matter what her children were interested in, she encouraged and supported them; from volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, to short-lived stents in various sports, to becoming a die-hard band mom, she was there cheering them on.

To have known her is to have laughed with or to have shared a kind word, whether a close friend or stranger in line at the grocery store; you always felt welcomed by her. Those around her were drawn to her infectious and warm personality and encompassing spirit. She was the kind of person you wanted to be around, no matter what sort of mood you were in—she may not have made grand gestures or showed off, but it was that humble, kind heart that we are all so very lucky to have gotten a chance to know and will never, ever forget.

Although the family lived in the city for many years, there was no place Peggy would have rather been than at home in the country or surrounded by water. Several family vacations were had at the ocean, and many times after the kids had flown the coop you could find the couple tucked away for a secluded weekend at a cabin in the woods by a lake. It was here, in these serene moments that allowed her to reflect and feel at peace with the world, and it will be here where her final peace shall be found.

We know that Peggy is enveloped by the love of her parents, her sister Carol and brother-in-law Ziggy, who passed before her. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Barry and children Jessica (Michael), Andrea (Jeff), and Mason (Julie); one brother, Johnny (Betty); two sisters, Jacquie and Patty; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who she loved dearly.

A Celebration of Life & Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 16th, 2022, at 10 AM at Leonard-Marker Funeral Home, 6521 E 151st St, Bixby, OK 74008. Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories.
