Pedro “Spanky” Florendo Francisco, Jr. was born in Manila on October 16, 1941 to Pedro Bermudez Francisco of Pililla, Rizal and Flora Nera Florendo of Bauang, La Union. His sister, Perla Francisco Niguidula-Gish of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is his only sibling. His mother nicknamed him “Spanky” from the “Little Rascals,” a popular American series in the 1920’s and 30’s.

As a child, Spanky was precocious yet adorable. He liked to play pranks even on his older uncles and aunties. No one could stay mad at him for long because of his engaging smile and warm hugs. Growing up, Spanky went to several schools in Manila and graduated from high school in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. He studied college at Adamson University but left school to work as a realtor at an early age. A natural born salesman, he did well and created many loyal friends along the way.

Spanky met the love of his life, Fe Sanciangco from Tanauan, Batangas. They married on July 30, 1964 in a civil ceremony and in a church wedding on September 6, 1964, and had five beautiful children, Leah, Florisa, Pedro III, Fidelis Joy, and Emanuel Noel. Spanky was a devout husband and doting father. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. When Fe died on April 1, 1997, Spanky became both mother and father to his children. He once said that his measure of success as a family man was when his children are more successful than he was.

An astute businessman, he was a pioneer in distributing LPG tanks to households in Tanauan, Batangas, expanding his business model by supplying to big companies until his retirement before the pandemic. Generous to a fault with his friends, he was well-loved and always the life of the party. He liked to sing and would burst into song, serenading the ladies, old and young alike.

During the pandemic, with very little chance to socialize, he turned to social media to reach out to his family and friends. His daily routine was reading the Bible and calling his family and friends through Messenger, just to ask how they’re doing. Tirelessly, he made it his daily mission to share scripture verses to his 295 Facebook friends from August 1, 2020 until the early morning of February 7, 2023 when he passed away. His last counsel was to love God with all your heart, soul, and might, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

Spanky is survived by his five children and their spouses: Leah and Napoleon Taas of Las Pinas, Metro Manila, Florissa (Babes) and Marcelino Name of Cainta, Rizal, Pedro III (Bong) and Melissa (Millet) Francisco of Pasay City, Fidelis Joy and Nelson Sabalvaro of Orinda, California, and Emanuel (Noel) and Rosa Filipina (Sasa) Francisco of Santo Tomas, Batangas; his 12 grandchildren: Carlos Christopher (Speed), Jose Francisco (Ikoy), Fenella Dominique (Nica), Miguel Luis (Migo), Maria Janella, Justinne Marie, Anaiah Immanuel, Peter Jerard (PJ), Renzo, Gabrio, Elijah Godfrey (Eli), Rafael Peter (Rafa); his sister, Perla and Stanley Gish; many cousins, nephews, nieces, and grand-nephews and nieces.
