Pauline's obituary
Mother, Wife and Friend. Teacher, Coach and Warrior… Our dear Pauline May left this world on September 3, 2022 after bravely battling breast cancer for nearly 10 years. She passed peacefully at home, being held by her husband and three children and surrounded by her sister, brother, sister in law and her best friend.
Pauline was born May 27 , 1977 in Los Angeles, CA. She set out on her own at the age of 17 to forge a life built on love, compassion and overcoming adversity. Professionally, she was most proud of her work as a pre-school teacher and as a coach at her family’s gym, University Place CrossFit. Pauline had a gift of truly connecting with children and her passion for early education will live on in every child that was blessed to have her as a teacher. As an athlete and coach, Pauline served as a shining example of how a focus on health and fitness can improve quality of life and overcome insurmountable odds.
Pauline met her husband Dave in 2001. Together they had three children and would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this October. Pauline was an excellent mother, raising her daughter and two sons to be strong, independent, and kind. She was understanding and empathetic and her children knew they could come to her with anything… except excuses. Pauline encouraged her children to challenge themselves, seek adventure and love others.
Pauline enjoyed the outdoors and loved the challenge of multi-day backpacking trips. She was dedicated to fitness, focusing her time between CrossFit and yoga. Pauline was a brilliant cook, voracious reader and had a wonderful eye for interior decorating and organization. She loved to entertain and to spend time with family and close friends over wine and food.
To know Pauline was to be in awe of her. Throughout a decade long battle with cancer, she endured countless surgeries and treatments; never allowing it to dampen her spirit. She was known for her positive attitude, tremendous grit, and of course, her beautiful smile. Pauline was a fiercely loyal friend and willing to fight for those she loved. She spoke the truth, even when it was uncomfortable and did not tolerate negativity.
Pauline’s legacy will live on in the lives she touched with lessons of strength, kindness, and hope. From her students and athletes to her family and friends, Pauline will remain a guiding light and a reminder to live freely and fully, hold those you love tightly, and to face life’s obstacles with a smile.
Pauline is survived by her husband Dave, her daughter Reegan, her sons Jack and James, her sister Lisa, her brother Ray Jr., her dad Ray Sr., extended family and countless friends. Pauline’s mother Paula, who passed earlier this year, was no doubt there to welcome her into the heavens.
