Paula's obituary
Paula was born on September 15th, 1934 to John and Agnes Bonilla in Hawaii. After graduating from President Theodore Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, she went on to work various jobs at Naval Station Pearl Harbor, the local Honolulu bowling alley and even becoming a pilot for the Hawaiian Civil Service.
In 1950, she met Alex Ruiz, and they wed in May of 1952, going on to have four children, Deborah, Agnes, Michael and Mitchell.
Paula and her family left Hawaii for California in 1963, residing in Hayward until finally settling down in the small town of Benicia in 1973.
After retiring in the late 1980’s from the Vallejo Mervyns department store, Paula spent her time enjoying time with her family, dancing, home decorating, gardening and cooking.
For those that knew Paula, it could easily be said she was one of the kindest and sweetest women they’ve ever met. Her good-natured spirit and hospitality attracted those to love and enjoy her company. In the islands of Hawaii, Aloha is a value, one of unconditional love. Aloha is the outpouring and receiving of the spirit. Paula embodied the value of Aloha.
Paula was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband Alex; her sister Barbara (Larry) Friedman and brother John Roger Bonilla; her four children, Deborah Johnson, Agnes Curiel, Michael (Theresa) Ruiz, Mitchell (Sharon) Ruiz; her eight grandchildren, Jason (Carinne) Campbell, Dan (Nicole) Curiel, Josh (Alicia) Ruiz, Aaron Ruiz, Nick (Heather) Ruiz, Alex Johnson, Lindsay Ruiz, Lexi Johnson and seven great grandchildren.
Paula's final wishes was to be cremated. Once her husband Alex has passed away, he will be cremated and both of them will have their final resting place together at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
A Celebration of Life for Paula and Alex will then be planned for the both of them.
