Paula's obituary

Paula Kay Fernandez, 77, of Homestead, FL, passed away on January 18, 2021, after a very long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Paula was born on September 2nd, 1943 to Paul Arnold Mack and Margaret Velma Bell in Franklin, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Rocky Grove Senior High in 1961, she went on to attend school in Minnesota, pursuing her desire to work for an airline.

After graduation, she landed her first job at Pan American Airways and moved to New York City. It was here where she met Ricardo Fernández Vasconcelos, and they wed in 1964, going on to have 6 children - Nieves, Ricardo Paul, Laura, Eric, Mikael, and Cara.

When Paula had Ricardo Paul, she decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Paula excelled at supporting her family through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Once her youngest was a bit older, she decided to return to work and discovered a new passion of her own for teaching. Soon after the family relocated from New York to Miami, FL and she spent most of these years before her illness teaching grades 4-6 at a local private church school where she adored and was adored by her students.

Paula was a passionate keeper of fish and birds. She loved God and the church and when she was not home or at school, she could be found there or at a local Bible study with Ricardo by her side.

Paula was predeceased by her daughter Nieves Fernández, her father Paul A. Mack, her mother Margaret V. Bell, and her husband Ricardo Fernández Vasconcelos. She is survived by her other five children and five grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of her life along with her beloved, Ricardo Fernández, at a future date once we are all able to come together again.
