Paul W. Winton ("Fat Boy")
Paul W. Winton, affectionately known as "Fat Boy," was born on February 21, 1961, and passed away on August 24, 2024, at Jersey Shore University Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Waretown, NJ, Paul leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories.
Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Lorraine A. Winton. Together, they raised four daughters who were his pride and joy: Theresa (Richard) Montgomery, Samantha Winton, Savannah (Choi) Durante, and Lisa Betterley (Kevin Mitchell Jr.). Paul also cherished the children he raised as his own: Stephanie (Jim) Smith and his nephew Kenneth G. Betterley.
Paul was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren: Bryce, Travis, Kaiden, Josh, Jackson, Jolee, Hunter, Justice, and Journey. His love extended to his two cherished dogs, Diesel Dixie "Dee Dee" and Raia. He is also remembered by his brothers-in-law John and Leonard Betterley; his sister-in-law, Diane Smith; and his three sisters, Joyce, Elsie, and Dawn; his brother, Elwood; along with his many nieces and nephews.
Paul was known for his passion for fishing, camping, hunting, and his love for SyFy movies. He
deeply valued his friendships with Lester, Dwight, and Debbie. A dedicated and hardworking individual, Paul took pride in his role as a welder at Bil-Jim Construction, Inc., where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Elsie Winton; his three brothers, Howard, Frank, and Elwood; his mother-in-law Lorraine A. Hyres; his brother-in-law Kenneth (Diane) Betterley; his sister-in-law Marian Betterley; and his grandson, Ayden Montgomery.
Paul’s kindness, generosity, and the warmth of his spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. He was always there for others, often with a humorous quip, and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to support their needs during this time. A memorial service to honor Paul’s life will be held at Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 335 S Main St, Barnegat Township, NJ 08005, on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
