Paul's obituary
A self taught mechanical engineer, his designs and process improvements were adopted by the Pechiney Corporation, who patented his ideas in the field of manufacturing and packaging. It was his simplicity and common sense that solved many complex problems at work. The same simplicity and common sense characteristics were calming and endearing qualities that allowed our family to tackle complex topics throughout school and in life. Upon “retiring,” Paul then taught Driver’s Education for 15 years where he touched the lives of many young kids and shared many stories of his yesteryears!
But his true talents were more family focused. Paul played a very active roll in the life of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was an active member of his church and community. He was a great story teller, in fact his story telling was second to none. Everyone loved hearing him tell his stories of tipping over outhouses, putting a skunk in the heating vents at school and getting caught skipping school to go “feeeshin’.” He could be found tinkering in his garage, deer hunting, fishing on his boat, or vacationing with his family in Summersville, WV, Jacksonville, FL and Ft. Myers, FL.
Paul was married to Jodi (Maston) Shaeffer for 37 years and was a long time resident of New Lexington, Ohio until a recent relocation to Delaware, Ohio. He is survived by his wife, Jodi, sons Paul (Judi) Shaeffer Jr. and Justin (Tamara) Brown, as well as daughters Tammy (Keith-deceased) Conway, Darla (Kevin-deceased) Marcum, and Jill (Bryan) Ignaszewski, in addition to 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two sisters-Gladys (Robert-deceased) Householder and Alice (Jack) Grey.
Sometimes heroes wear flannel shirts and a ball cap. Fair winds and following seas. Until we see you again!
