Paul's obituary

Paul Francis Petermann, 78, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away on January 27, 2026. He was born on February 6, 1947, in Englewood, New Jersey.

Paul was the beloved husband of Gail Petermann (née Sullivan), with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, and a devoted father to his children, Christian Petermann (Patricia), Jonathan Petermann (Pamela), and Caitlin Veras (Jeyrimi). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Travis, Alexa, Xander, Hudson, and Kiara. He is also survived by his brother, Vincent Petermann.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Petermann and Giovanina “Jenny” Petermann (née Saltalamacchia), his brother Richard “Sonny” Petermann, and his sister Frieda Petermann.

Paul dedicated his professional life to public service as an Appeals Examiner for the New Jersey Department of Labor. His work reflected his deep sense of fairness, compassion, and commitment to helping others navigate difficult moments.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Hiram Scott College in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and went on to receive a Master of Social Work from Columbia University in New York, New York.

Paul was known for his generosity, kindness, and incredible sense of humor. He gave freely of his time through volunteer work and was always ready to help those in need. A devoted football fan, he especially loved cheering on the New York Giants. Above all, Paul treasured his family and the connections he built with the people around him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
