I have many good memories of getting together with Paul in Sarasota while he and I cared for our Florida moms. We also enjoyed each other’s company at haiku conferences, and he was my longtime editor at The Heron’s Nest. I recall when his daughter married and how happy Paul was. He was very pleased when I noticed that he wore the MacNeil tartan to the wedding. He spoke of the joy of being a grandparent and said that one day I would experience the same joy, if I was lucky. I never got the chance to tell him he was right.

Paul loved his grandaughters …
2017, Onawa, Maine, USA
Paul loved his grandaughters and Onawa. He wrote many haiku and renku from this desk, and the porch in the background was one of his favorite spots on Earth.
Because I was expecting it to be sometime soon, I thought I would not cry when Paul was gone. I was wrong.
