Dear Iwasaki Family.    I am deeply saddened to learn of Paul's passing.    I have been thinking of contacting you for many years.  Paul and Christy were two of my Father's favorite students.    (Hugh O'Donnell, Hillsboro High School)  My father often spoke fondly of the special people he was fortunate to teach.

My Mother, thought the  world of Paul...and especially appreciated the beautiful flower baskets that adorned the downtown streets back in the mid nineties.  She went to Paul for advice, design, and contracts to finalize their installation.  I remember all of the hard work that went into the planning and completion of these baske. They were beautuful

I just recently found the plans, business donations, letters, and beautiful photos.   I would very much like to share these photos...I have a few of Paul and Christi.  Please let me know how I may reach you.

With heartfelt love to you all.

             Cynthia O'Donnell

Hi Everyone,

This is Katrina, Paul's youngest. I deeply appreciate everything that has been shared, said, given, and a massive "thank you" to all who were able to make it out yesterday to his celebration of life. Honestly, I feel like my dad would have hated to know that such a big fuss was made over him, but he would secretly be proud to know that he had made such a difference in so many lives. I was touched by how many people he made meaningful connections with. His involvement in AA was a part of his life that was very near and dear to him and, while he shared his milestones with pride, it, like his addiction, was a part of his life that was kept separate from his family. If any of you, friend or family, find yourself in crisis or need, I would be remiss if, as his daughter, I didn't say that you can reach out and I will provide whatever anonymous support I can. I can't hope to be as wise and understanding as my father, but I will try to be a kind ear, should you need it

Last fall I lost my Mother suddenly.  Paul gave me a beautiful card recognizing the loss and hard it was.  I gave him a hug and thank you, even though he probably wasn't a hugging guy.  This gesture of kindness and recognition meant so much to me!

I am sorry for your loss of a special person.   The unexpectedness of Paul's passing adds extra difficulty at this time.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, especially during my quiet time.
It was with great sadness that I learned of Paul's passing. Yet it is with gratitude and joy for the precious time we spent together trudging the Road of Happy Destiny!  The memories will never fade!

Dear Iwasaki Family,

Please accept my condolences for your loss.  Paul was one of the kindest, most thoughtful and giving people I've ever known.  I will never forget how he helped me plant 7 cedars, 7 laurels and a large magnolia tree at my house, and gave me his special fertilizer mix to help them grow. They're now as tall as my house! Every time I look at them, I think of Paul.  We talked often and I enjoyed his wit and his wisdom.  I was so fortunate to know him and I will miss him deeply.

Sincerely,

Vicki Charbonneau

I'm so sorry for your loss.  When I think of your father, I think of a gentle giant.  I met him at the Thursday night Firehouse Meeting where we would talk.  He preferred not to read so I would give him the shortest script. Reluctantly, he always accepted.  He offered his wisdom and  guidance to us and  will be terribly missed.

I am one of Paul’s youngest (and favorite) cousin.  When we were little, my mom would take me to the farm to visit our grandparents.  Paul and our other cousin Ronnie would be there working and they would  call me “Rickets” .  (thinking it was a term of endearment).  It wasn’t until later I found out that it is a terrible disease  that impacted children  who lacked vitamin d and calcium.  (Which I resembled with my thin lanky frame, long hair and skinny legs)

I will miss cousin Paul-Paul and his sense of humor and his kindness to all.   Our 98th year old mother and Paul’s Aunt Aya always remember how he would bring her flowers when he would visit.  We will miss you Paul and will keep your family close.

To the Iwasaki Family, My deepest sympathies to you. Paul was my oldest friend and so dear to my heart. We spent many a time chatting over coffees and breakfasts. I loved his sense of humor, his values and ethics, his love for kitties ... not many people have as much integrity as Paul did. He was a sweet, kind and dear friend and I will miss him terribly. ~ RIP

My condolences to Paul's family. I first met Paul when I was a little kid living on Riverview. He was so kind and sweet as he took in our cat (Midnight) who loved Paul and his property. I would always stop and talk to him when I drove by. We had many conversations and I will cherish every one I had. He was such a humble man and was supportive to all of those around. He will be deeply missed and remembered fondly 🩵

Paul volunteered at the Crest Farm which was part of the West Linn-Wilsonville School District. He shared his vast knowledge and experience with us. He was super supportive of the farm program and he helped with events and work parties. Paul was always smiling and laughing. He had a great dry sense of humor and he was always very humble and kind. I had the pleasure of getting to know him as a friend as well and I really enjoyed talking with him.
