Paul's obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mr. Paul Girello, who peacefully left us on January 23, 2026. Born in Staten Island, NY on September 24, 1951, his journey through life was paved with remarkable achievements and profound impacts on those around him.
Paul, a beloved husband, father, and friend, is survived by his son, James Girello, daughter, Victoria Girello-Zapata (John), grandchildren Luca and Mateo, daughter Sara Girello, and sister Carmela Palantone. He was a pillar of strength for his family, including his wife of 40 years, Sondra. He is predeceased by his father, Vincent Girello, his mother, Virginia Girello, and his sister, Rosemarie Callahan.
The pursuit of knowledge was always a priority for Paul. An alumnus of The City College of New York, he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1973. His quest for learning led him to Westminster Theological Seminary where he furthered his education with post-graduate studies in 1982.
Paul's career was marked by his relentless dedication and expertise. Starting in 1974, he embarked on his career journey as a Broadcast Engineer at Station World International News Service. Over the years, he held numerous notable positions at WMJX-FM Miami, Station WAVS, Stereorama Studios, Stations WFTL and WAFG-FM, Hocking Technology College, Station WWDJ, and Station WAWZ-FM. He retired in 2019 from Voice of America, after over 30 years of service, leaving behind a strong legacy in his field.
He was a proud member of Mensa through his intellect and SAG-AFTRA through his profession. Paul had a musical soul. His love for The Beatles reverberated throughout the Girello household every Sunday, creating beautiful family memories. He enjoyed tinkering with electronics in his free time, with stereos and cell phones being his favorite apparatus. He also had a great love for animals and treated every pet like family.
