Paul's obituary

Paul Savage, Renowned Adventurer and Enthusiast, Dies at 77

Paul Savage’s life was defined by boundless enthusiasm, quick wit, and a knack for turning strangers into friends. Born in Kentucky and raised in Blue Ash, Ohio, Paul lived life to the fullest—from mischievous boyhood tales to standing at the podium soaking wet at his 1966 Sycamore High graduation and making the crowd laugh. His positivity and humility left a mark on everyone he met.

Paul excelled as a student-athlete, winning a full football scholarship to Wake Forest and forming lifelong bonds with friends and fraternity brothers. A natural storyteller and seeker of adventure, he crisscrossed the country, selling textbooks, following good music, and learning to fly. A favorite memory was the New Year's Trip he took with his sister, girlfriend, and good buddies in tow. Marked by laughter, unforgettable camaraderie, and misadventures that spanned four states and two countries, it was quintessential Savage.

Paul’s legendary wanderlust followed him to California, where he met and married his wife, Cindy. They built a swimwear company in Hawaii and later returned to California to raise a family. Paul’s creative deals and real estate ventures included everything from commercial real estate to running a bed and breakfast. Paul’s home was always full—of people, pets, friends down on their luck, and endless hospitality.

Through personal and professional ups and downs, Paul’s integrity stood out. He represented himself all the way to the California Supreme Court, choosing principle over profit. Later, he poured his energy into innovative water conservation efforts and, ultimately, found deep joy sailing aboard his cherished Soirée in San Diego.

Paul spent his final months in San Francisco, surrounded by loved ones. Even as idiopathic interstitial lung disease stole his health, he remained a beacon of cheer and hope. He is survived by his brother Carlton; sisters Gayle, Lynn, and Denise; children Thomas and Linsey; and four adored grandchildren.

Celebrate Paul’s life by looking on the bright side and making room at the table for one more. Raise a glass to a man who met every challenge with humor and heart.

Here’s to the next great adventure!
