God Bless. We’re just driving by Portsmouth nh and thought about our favorite Dr. Bacon. Thank you for your service… I know God  has a very special place for you gentle soul. Rest in his loving peace.

Norm & Maddy

Today’s date is 8/26/22 My time with Doc B was November 1986-April 1988 in Portsmouth, NH when his practice was still named Bacon Chiropractic. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing today. Aaron & Jessica, my condolences to you. He was a great chiropractor, friend, boss & mentor to me. He moved from Iowa to NH, and I moved from NH to Iowa after working for him for about a year and a half! It was the best, most fulfilling time working for someone in my entire life! Doc B I can easily say was the single most influential person in my life beyond my family members! I have thought of him fondly over the years & have recounted the following story about him to many people...

I moved to NH in 1985 after graduating from college in upstate NY to work for a veterinarian before hopefully going to veterinary school. I found out that it was not for me. So I was working at a restaurant in Stratham, NH in 1986 & one of the cooks (Bob) told me, “Jessica, my chiropractor is looking to hire a chiropractic technician. You will love him & you’ll be great there. You should apply!” So I did! I was very nervous about my interview as I had absolutely no experience or knowledge of chiropractic, but I was very open to it & excited about working with natural health. Doc B told me that he was very glad that I knew nothing because if I had any previous CT training he would have to unteach all of that & then re-train me to his specific needs because he did things a bit differently than most chiropractors!

Well, it was the beginning of a wonderful relationship and exciting time in my life! But it was too short, because of the ways he inspired me...

I loved my work in his office; my coworkers Janice & Ellie; our patients; and of course Doc B. He taught me so much, and I lit up, recognizing that holistic health was an important part of my future!

We all know that Doc B could really get deeply engaged in passionate & thought provoking conversations! One day after adjusting a married couple, another couple joined them & Doc B in an adjusting room. I took the patient notes during his appointments and taught patients their corrective & maintenance exercises (Spinal twists! Fulcrums!), so I waited in the hallway outside the adjusting rooms until he was ready to see the next patient if I wasn’t busy with a patient. So I often overheard some very interesting things! After the conversation Doc B had with those two couples, I asked him privately, would you please tell me what you all were talking about? Some kind of meditation course? What’s all the excitement about & why are you so interested in it? He said to me, “Jessica, there are 3 things that I am afraid to live without. They are: my knowledge of chiropractic; my knowledge of nutrition; and my practice of meditation.” Well, that one conversation forever changed my life! I learned the meditation that he then practiced as soon as possible in July of 1987! I then went at lightning speed through a residence course and then advanced training with the goal of enrolling in a graduate program with research in consciousness at the university (in Iowa!) associated with that meditation! Doc B was so happy for me, and he was admittedly somewhat envious because he wanted to do those things too!

I have been passionate about nutrition since Doc B introduced me to “Fit for Life”, Standard Process Lab supplements; sent me for Contact Reflex Analysis training with Dr. Versendaal; and put me in charge of the patient nutritional programs & protocols in his office! I am now an intuitive holistic wellness educator and love working with individuals and groups to empower people to be in tune with their selves and flow in a life supporting way rather than be at the mercy of destructive emotions, thought patterns & conditioning. Although I no longer practice the specific meditation that Doc B told me about, I am committed to spiritual practice and am actively engaged in supporting the expansion of love & light on Earth and the Oneness & Enlightenment of humanity. I was looking up Doc B’s current status because I am coming to NH (for a family wedding) for the first time in over 30 years and wanted to catch up with him. I miss him, will always love him and deeply appreciate the guidance, mentorship, friendship and inspiration that Doc B provided for me at a very formative time of my life. I sincerely wish that I had made it back to NH to visit with him before his illness and passing. I recently got remarried, and my husband is a chiropractor! Chiropractic has been an integral part of my life since the day I met Doc B! My husband would have loved him too. (A little side note that I am in the process of changing my name to Jecica Aum Heart & Mrs. Haddington O’Heart. If you try to look me up, I have a FB page called the sacred healer but I haven’t yet made a new FB profile as Jecica Aum Heart).

Peace, love, light & blessings to you Aaron & Jessica and to all of your family & those who love the wonderful Paul R. Bacon. He was a gem! I celebrate his amazing life & profound, positive impact on so many people!

I only recently learned of Dr. Bacons passing. I became a patient of his about 4 years after suffering a herniated disc. Throughout my life I’ve seen a litany of chiropractors, and tried many different approaches, Dr Bacon designed and implemented the only techniques that ever worked for me. I always appreciated his warm, and enthusiastic hellos “good morning admiral!” Or some variation, every time. I think he truly cared about his patients, and I appreciated and respected him for that beyond measure. He struck me as a brilliant, funny and endearing man, and I genuinely miss him. My condolences to his family, and friends.

Dr Bacon was my first chiropractor when I was 25. I'm now in my late 60s. I'll never forget his kindness and how much he helped me with the exercises that he gave me. So sad to hear this. (My Mom, Phyllis Mellen, went to  him also until her passing.)

I'm devastated to learn about Dr. Bacon's death.... what a wonderful healer ... and person!

Also... is there someone I can contact about his exercise regime? I had stopped doing them several years ago after my pain was gone, but now some of the pain has returned, and I need help in remembering the regime. If I could be put in contact with his assistant, or even his receptionist, that would be wonderful.

Thank you so much.

Happy Father's Day Dad.

I miss you and Love you always, with all my heart.

You are with me always, and always will be.

Happy Birthday Dad.

I miss you so much here in this physical realm, but you are always with me in my heart.

I know that your boundless, limitless spirit is alive and well and watching over us all, today and every day.

I love you always.

Where do you begin? To say you literally saved my family would be an understatement. From my wife’s debilitating back pain to my own injuries, you took us from despair and hopelessness to giving us our lives back pain free. We became disciples of “Doc Bacon”, we drank the Kool Aid, and bought in whole heartedly to your philosophy of how to fix ourselves. You taught us so much…lessons which we will use for the rest of our lives.

On paper, we only knew you for a few years, but in reality, it felt like we have known you our whole lives. Your passion and kindness were unrivaled and the sincerity in which you treated people was like none other we have experienced. You truly cared about your patients and treated them as human beings and you got to know each one’s story.

Your life read like a Hollywood script which would make Forrest Gump envious, and you always had a story to tell. The world has truly lost a great one, but you left it a better place because of your gift of healing. Thank you for being there for my family…you were not only our doctor, but you were also our friend. Selfishly, we are sad for our loss, but we are happy knowing you are at peace. God bless you Doc.

Bryan & Lindsay Pappas

My deepest sympathies to Paul's family. I have been a faithful patient of Dr. Bacon's  since 1980 along with my first husband Ken, my children Ben and Lizzie and my second husband Don. We considered Dr. Bacon our family doctor and saw him weekly for 42 years. He kept   us all healthy and it was like seeing a true friend at every visit. His passing is a terrible loss to the chiropractic community.  We are so very lucky to have known him.

DR. Bacon is deeply missed and loved,

Diane Foote

Incessantly pursuing excellence, Paul’s numerous talents benefited his community of people over many years, and we are blessed and fortunate for his compassion and positive energy.

We shall miss him

Bill Kragen

And in his loving way in a stern voice he tell you what you needed to do We swap jokes and tell some stories as he work to help us get well .

Such beautiful things written here, and they are all so true. Dr. Bacon you are one of the greatest people I will ever know. The gratefulness I feel in my heart to have crossed paths in this life is immeasurable. You have inspired me, you have made a difference to so many, and your spirit-full of its goodness will continue to live on. Rest In Peace Dr. B. 💜

“Good morning Admiral!” What can I say Doc, other than THANK YOU! Thank you for all that you did to: inspire, motivate, innovate, dedicate, care, and without a doubt, make your patients your paramount priority.

You opened my eyes to wellness and shined the path to proper care. You contributed so greatly to my quality of life and have given me the ability to live my desired lifestyle. I can’t thank you enough for the knowledge I've gained and the functionality I’ve regained. Your influence my life is profound. There is no one in my life that doesn’t know your name.

Your friendship, integrity, character, and impact will not be forgotten. You are still with me everyday, “DO YOUR HOMEWORK!”. I’m grateful for every moment.

Our deepest condolences.  Dr. B literally changed my life and my husband's; at the very least, he improved the quality of it.  We are so sorry to learn of his passing and send our thoughts and prayers to his family.
I am so very sorry to hear of Paul 's passing. He was in this world an inspiration to my spirit. He is in the next world now , as native Americans call what comes after this one. He will be working there and will greet us when our time comes. My deepest sympathy to Deb and family.
Doc, you loved each and every…

Doc, you loved each and every patient with the depths of your heart. Your caring ran deeper than any ocean and your concern to the tallest mountains. You embraced us all much like this photo of you and my granddaughter depicts!

I recall one day when we were talking, you pulled some tiny scraps of paper from your (ginger laden pocket) and wrote something. When I inquired you said you were writing down to remember to pray for me that evening as you did for your patients every night! I was touched beyond tears, and I felt your prayers that evening.

You took me from the depths of despair to pain free joy! You talked me off many ledges, made me cry, laugh and love you more and more.

You have gone on to where you are called to be at this time, but as is life in the physical we miss you so deeply it is a challenge to understand why we cannot still have you in our lives.

You rest now dear Doc, you are thankfully out of pain and onto a greater good in your spiritual being.

I will for ever smile when I hear bonjour, bonjour, I will forever be grateful for your long chats and answers as Jan walked by with the evil eye to you (smiles), I will be forever grateful and hold you deep in my heart, my soul, my very being for all you were to me.

I know you are sending love to us all, it is who you are!

Rest well my dear friend, rest in peace!

XO

Linda M

I couldn't believe it when I heard about Doc's passing.  He was a truly brilliant man and changed so many lives.  I worked with him for a couple of years and then decided to go to chiropractic college after seeing such improvement in people's health.  He was so encouraging and generous, but what I remember most about him was his stories (while growing up/in the war/chiropractic stories) and his strength.  He could lift twice as much as me and he was in his 60's while I was in my 20's.  I was blessed to be around him and learn from him in many aspects - chiropractic, house renovation, business dealings, Ayurvedic medicine and general health. One of my biggest regrets is not being able to work as a chiropractor in his office and continue his legacy.

So many random things come to mind - on Halloween he would wear his pig tie (for Bacon).  rousing him from his meditation when patients were ready to be seen, him hanging from his neck brace from the ceiling in order to adjust his spine, Makita drills retrofitted to relax muscles, a hive of bees living in the x-ray room and having them fly around me while in the dark, the pillows he made (which I have used almost everyday since 2004), Doc-in-a-box home self-care kit, all of the patients we helped through the years (of which I can remember many names), joint lubrication exercises, lunches at Shalimar Indian restaurant....the list goes on and on.

He has influenced my life in so many ways, and I am ever grateful.  He will truly be missed!

Few people have had as profound an effect on my life as Doctor Bacon.  Both as his patient and employee (I was privileged to work at the front desk for 3 years), I learned so much from him that changed my life and that I carry with me today.

I was continuously inspired by his extraordinary commitment to the well being of his patients.  In his own words:  "I want everyone to have everything possible".  No one could have worked harder to find or create ways to provide the patients with "everything possible".  He never gave up on anyone no matter how challenging the situation.  Doc had the capacity to be fully present with each person and worked tirelessly to help heal, educate and empower them.

His extraordinary abilities and zeal came with its challenges, however--for him and those around him.  As anyone who has been on staff as well as numerous patients can attest, Doc had a tendency to conduct spontaneous "mini seminars" in one adjustment room, resulting in an extra-long wait for patients in the other rooms and in the lobby.  We on the staff tried everything we could think of to respectfully get Doc to "move along".  We tried tact, humor, pleading, written notes, grunting, stern looks--all  with only minimal, temporary results.  When all other efforts were exhausted, we thought perhaps a unique, visual message might do the trick; so we tried something more memorable.

It was no secret that Doc had a "skeleton in his closet"; yes, an adult-sized skeleton dangling in the closet.  So one Halloween the staff decided to place the skeleton on a chair in the lobby.  We sat her down, put a hat on her head, a purse hanging from her wrist and a sign in front of her that read:  "DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.  IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING TOO LONG, PLEASE COME TO THE FRONT DESK AND LET US KNOW."

Well, fortunately, Doc had a great sense of humor.  When he saw what we had done, he laughed heartily, grabbed his camera and took several photos.

A plethora of memories abide of people whose lives have been transformed through Dr. Bacon's skillful mind and hands, his compassionate heart and his deeply conscious being.  I am profoundly grateful to have been one of those people.

Namaste' Doc.

Omg. How do I put anything here! My last time with Doc, he took care of my neck cramp. My last day of
Work, he celebrated me. I cried so hard leaving. Doc gave me a chance, gave me a chance to grow, learn, be confident.

So many memories come back, but one that stands out is going to the pettibon conference together and seeing Doc interact with his mentor Burl. The mutual respect, The history of Chiropractic i got to experience was life changing.

I still use standard process, I still try to take lunch to meditate. I miss his adjustments, I miss his care, his love.

Many never get to experience working for someone who loves, cares. Doc did. His memory is carried on in my life in more ways than I can ever explain. Oh, and he still shows up as one of my google pics…I have no clue how to make it go away, and I don’t think I’ll ever try.

I will remember and miss you forever, Doc.

Paul was one of Russell's first patients back in the 70's. Russ was concerned when Paul did not follow through with his treatment plan, but was taken by surprise when Paul walked into our office four years later after graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic. We welcomed Paul and Helen , Jessica, and Aaron into our lives and we became close friends and extended family as well as colleagues. We remember many parties, celebrations, trips, and adventures with the Bacons over the years. Paul was a dynamic influence on the Chiropractic profession as a healer, mentor, doctor, educator, author and inventor. We were so blessed to have spent an afternoon with him and Deb that last week of his life. Russ and Paul had a meaningful conversation reminiscing life accomplishments. He will be missed by all, but leaves a tremendous legacy.

Peace Be The Journey

I remember when I was about eight Paul took me to the Rockies to teach me how to swim across the river. I remember getting halfway and having to hang onto his neck to get across but I did manage on the way back Paul said just relax you can make it .After that I was crossing river every day by myself. His return from Vietnam found us as a family so happy he was home safe My mum was hugging him and crying we all were . He loved his basketball I remember watching him many times growing up playing he was quite good he loved skiing and when we skied with him he made us smile and laugh a great sense of humour .

Paul was creative with Design and building always had a project on. He loved people and was caring and helping people become well. And so being a Chiropractor was a wonderful career and he was great at it. I remember going in to see him without an appointment which was often the case. He would say Terry what have you done this time, I’ll have to see you on my lunch break. I thought I broke my rib I could hardly breathe. Paul said let me see, it’s not broken I’ll fix it . He adjusted me and I could breathe freely again, then we had lunch together. Paul was a great brother and we all loved him And will miss him and I’m sure you all do too . My love and prayers are with all the family at this time of grief .

My deepest condolences, Paul was not just my chiropractor but a dear friend. We had many similarities in our life's. His dad and mine worked in the same shop on the Navy Yard and from what he said my dad and his were very similar. I will always remember all that he did for me physically and his advice on life.   I have never know a better man and his compassion for all he met. There are no words that can express my feelings of his passing. He knew how much I cared for him and that is one thing I can be glad I expressed to him. My life will forever be better for having known him.

So sorry to hear about Dr. B. My family started seeing him back when I was in middle school (~20 years ago). He was so kind and educational.  He would always leave me pondering something from our visits or with a sticky note of something I needed to know/look up- my “homework”. I enjoyed his stories and the time he took getting to know his patients, because he truly cared.  Although I hadn’t seen him in years, he was thought of often- even a simple “Good morning” would bring back him saying “good morning good morning and how are you this morning?” I just always imagined him being there… he will be truly missed. I can never thank him enough for everything he did for my family.

My thoughts and prayers to his family and to everyone lucky enough to have known Dr. B.
