I was the advisor for both Patty's Master's thesis and her dissertation. She was a wonderful student. What a shock to hear of her passing -- we were exchanging messages just days before she died. She will be greatly missed.

A vivid image in my head, which I never actually saw, was of my little cousin Patty on the streets of L.A. doing work with gangs. Bravest of my dozen cousins. I think it was research while at UCLA. Not sure of my facts on this, but that image coupled with her being so “wicked smaht”, as we say in the Boston area, is how I remember her. She was tough too running a fundraiser marathon with my Mom in mind.
