Patsy Ann Shanahan, lovingly known as "Nina," passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, in Garland, Texas, at the age of 91. She was born Patsy Ann Simms to Penn and Bessie Simms on June 27, 1934, in Memphis TX and raised in Bessemer, Alabama, and lived a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and service to others.
Patsy dedicated her professional life to caring for those in need. She worked as both a dental assistant and a certified nurse's aide, roles that reflected her compassionate and nurturing spirit. Her devotion to helping others extended far beyond her career. Patsy was a woman of unwavering faith who actively participated in church programs and generously supported her church community. She shared her devout beliefs with everyone she encountered, leaving an incredible mark on those around her.
Affectionately called "Nina" by many who knew her, Patsy had a remarkable ability to see the best in people. She adored children and found immense joy in their presence. Patsy also cherished the simple pleasures of life—gardening and reading were among her favorite pastimes. Whether tending to her plants or losing herself in the pages of a good book, she found peace and fulfillment in these quiet moments. Patsy also loved spending time with friends and family, offering kindness and support to all who crossed her path.
Patsy's memory will be cherished by her loving daughter Tommie Wood; grandchildren Travis Wood, Karyn Wood, Kelley Wood, and Laurin Minor (spouse of Travis Minor); great-grandchildren Owen Wood, Oliver Wood, Fallyn Minor, Autumn Minor, and Rylee Minor; as well as her niece Suzanne Jobe (spouse of Richard Jobe) and their children Tyler Jobe and Savannah Jobe. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Phillip Scott Thompson and former husband Eugene Melville Thompson.
Her legacy of faith, compassion, and love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. A prayer service will be held on April 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Meadows Baptist Church located at 3001 Los Rios Blvd., Plano, Texas.
