Patsy's obituary
Patsy "Heda" Guerrero Deanda, 78, of Kalamazoo, MI, went to be with The Great Tamale Maker in the sky Saturday, July. 1st, 2023 passing quietly at Bronson hospital. Patsy was born on March 28,1945 to Refugia Guerrero (mom) and Paulino Deanda(father) in Sinton, TX. The youngest of thirteen she moved to Michigan as an infant with her mother as part of the migrant movement where she remained the majority of her life moving back to Texas briefly as a teenager so she could help care for her niece and nephews Carol, Chris and Jack and finally learning Spanish along the way.
Patsy eventually made her way back to Michigan finding love, marriage(divorce), five kids and then some. She "adopted" numerous friends of her children along the away and it wasn't unheard of for her to give those friends down on their luck a place to rest their head and a full belly. There was nothing more she loved than a clean house, getting her whites whiter than white and whipping up a great meal. Tortillas, rice, beans, Fideo, enchiladas, tacos, poke chops... you catch the drift, it all made home smell like home offering the kind of comfort everyone needed. Those that knew her knew her fierce cooking and the love it was made with.
Patsy became a cranky kind of no nonsense, tell it like it is kind of gal in her later years but still managed to find joy in helping to raise her "PoocaDo" her youngest grandchild, Lucas. Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, her two sons Joe Paul Pineda and Michael Alan Pineda and her twelve siblings. She is survived by her sons, Marc and Andrew Pineda both of Parchment, MI, her daughter and caretaker, Nichole Pineda, her two beloved chihuahuas, Piggy Smalls and Charli Girl and DIL, Sara Durbin all of Kalamazoo, MI. She is also survived by her six grand children, Jaimie (Robert) McCue of Almeda, CA, Joseph Paul (Molly) Pineda of Portage, MI, Khrystina Warren of Mattawan, MI, Lindsey Pineda of Kalamazoo,MI, Andrew Joesph Blaker of Hillsdale, MI and the love of her life, Lucas Pineda of Kalamazoo, MI, three great Grandkids- Kiyah, Izzy and Manny all of whom she adored, and many nieces and nephews. Per Patsy's wishes, cremation has taken place with Whitley Funeral Home. A celebration of Life will be held August 6th, 2023 at the Fountains Banquet Hall in Parchment, MI from 4pm-8pm. Please consider a donation in her name to the Kalamazoo Humane Society or Kalamazoo Animal Rescue and get your pets spayed or neutered.
