Patrick's obituary

On Friday, November 20th, 2020: it was a sun filled beautiful, picturesque Autumn day in Georgia with a rich royal blue sky with no clouds in sight. Patrick Ekpong Nyambison, 71, beloved Father to Perpetua & Leonard Nyambison & loving Husband to Gladys Jude suddenly passed away in his sleep.

Patrick Ekpong Nyambison was born to Mamayah Ojong & Ekpong Nyambison on the 8th day of November 1949 in Ikom, Crossriver, Nigeria. As a child, he was very active, zestful & mischievous, with a self-willed & fearless spirit! Patrick's in in inquisitive nature always kept his hands busy tinkering & taking things apart; wondering & day dreaming about the world around him. Daddy grew up learning to play soccer, fishing & farming along the river banks of his city-town where he taught himself to swim & ride a bike!

Patrick quickly become an avid cyclist & a freediving swimmer especially loving to dive off the coast into the Atlantic Ocean; bringing up fresh seafood he had caught with his bare hands becoming one with the sea. He enjoyed traveling; always humming, singing & whistling. His tenor would finally lead him to joining his local parish choir. While there, he became an altar server as well as a Marian faithful devotee; meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary daily! Daddy spent hours reading his bible & various books on a wide array of topics especially books on his favorite Pope: Saint Pope John Paul II.

When he wasn't reading, Patrick enjoyed watching games with baseball fueling his passion & his enthusiasm for sports! He liked watching the Atlanta Braves play but especially remained a loyal super fan to his beloved Chicago Cubs!

Daddy absolutely loved History & Math; constantly crunching numbers in his head! He started working in the city as a civil servant installing cable wires all around town & in Lagos, Nigeria! For a time, he also worked as a chef & before long those same culinary skills landed a job with Red Lobster as a dedicated member of the crew for 30 years! Making lasting friendships through the years spent!

As a dedicated parishioner of Saint Thomas the Apostle for over 25 years, we pray for the repose soul of Patrick Ekpong Nyambison. The grace of a happy death is what our universal Catholic faith & mediations on the mysteries of the Rosary have left us with to ponder, pray & find a sense of peace that surpasses all human understanding in this difficult time of sadness as we bear this tragic loss! May God give us the strength to do so.

Daddy will be tremendously missed & fondly remembered by all those he leaves behind like his family, parish community, co-workers, loved ones, friends especially his beloved wife & two treasured children. May his precious soul find eternal rest in the arms of God, the Creator, our Lord Jesus Christ who is the Alpha and the Omega of us all & everything!
