Patricia Mary Smith was born in Rye, New York into a military family at the end of World War 2 into a time of prosperity. Her father was a missile telemetry photographer who did his training at Annapolis, West Point. They traveled and relocated for his work in New York City, Washington DC, Melbourne, Florida and Morrocco. Her parents were both of Irish origin with Irish parents.
