Patty's obituary
Patricia Gale Moerschell, known to all who loved her as Patty, age 68, passed away on February 19, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia, after a long and brave journey with Frontotemporal Dementia.
Born on September 6, 1957, in Richmond, Virginia, to Paul Moerschell Jr. and Constance Zuidema Moerschell, she was raised in Virginia Beach and graduated from Kempsville High School, where she found joy on stage through school drama productions. She attended Westhampton College at the University of Richmond, double-majoring in mathematics and psychology, and chose to make Richmond her lifelong home. She later completed some graduate coursework at VCU in Business Information Systems. She began her career as a computer program analyst at Miller & Rhoads, later moving to the banking industry, where she became an IT project manager.
Patty found her deepest joy in her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and treasured the moments they shared celebrating holidays and gathering for beach trips in the Outer Banks. She deeply cherished her friendships and had a remarkable gift for uplifting and supporting those around her. She loved boating on the Chesapeake Bay with her father, skiing, hiking, playing tennis, and tutoring students in math. A gardener at heart, she delighted in tending her plants, nurturing them with patience and pride. A faithful and devoted member of Three Chopt Presbyterian Church, she sang in the choir, served on the session, and poured herself into the community of the church.
Patty was most well known for her relentless positive attitude and enthusiasm throughout her life, a trait that persisted through her journey with FTD. The word that lingered longest was “Yay!”
She is survived by her children, Whitney Ludvik (Patrick Brashears) and Matthew Ludvik, and grandchildren, Beck Sellers and Sloane Brashears; her brother, Dr. Paul Moerschell III (Susan), sister Pamela Jerothe (Richard), sister-in-law Courtney Moerschell (David Pierce), and her nephews and niece.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Dementia.
A garden party-themed memorial service will be held at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church on March 21st, 2026 at 1pm.
We carry forward her legacy of unshakeable positivity and joy, keeping on the sunny side of life.
