Pat's obituary
Patricia Ann Johns – Pat, Patty, Momma, and Gigi to those who knew her best – was a fierce and loyal friend, a champion and a cheerleader for all, and a woman beyond measure. She passed away on December 7, 2021 due to complications from COPD. She spent her last moments listening to The Beatles with Rick, Jess, and Susan by her side.
Pat cared deeply about justice, freedom, and equality for all. She was an anti-war veteran, a former corrections officer and criminal justice reformer, a children’s rights advocate, a die-hard feminist, a passionate activist, and a loving wife, mother and Gigi who instilled those principles in everyone she touched.
She loved bird-watching, reading, singing karaoke with Rick and her grandbabies, watching MSNBC at all hours, confidently answering every Jeopardy and Crossword clue (whether she actually knew it or not), playing a good game of pool or poker, and nights full of laughter, conversation, and family. She hated vegetables but would tell you to eat yours. She wasn’t much of a planner, because all she ever needed was some good company and a cup of black coffee or a glass of sangria.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and kindness. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued with the simplest interaction. We are heartbroken at her loss, but it is a comfort to know how much Mom was loved and how many lives she brightened. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.
