I am wondering  & have been wondering for a long time now why there was never a funeral or memorial service given for her!!! It says there will be a celebration of life at a later date, but this March will make it now 3 years that she has been gone, yet there hasn't been a funeral, a memorial service, nor a celebration of life given in remembrance of her!! If anybody on this entire Earth deserves to be remembered, trust me, it would be her! She was such an amazing woman of God who loved so much & who tried to help everybody & love everybody unconditionally like the Bible says we should do. She did her best each & everyday to serve the Lord & to do the Lord's work. She raised 3 kids that she adopted & that weren't her children by birth, then she raised 1 of her grandkids (that would be ME!) & also 1 of her great great grandkid, my son! She was nurturing & she was everything that a mother should be like. There are so many things that I would like to say to her & that I would like to thank her for if I could somehow see her now or talk to her just one more time. I am now an adult who still has alot of work to do on myself, but who has com e such a long way over the last 10 or so years of my life. Thanks to my grandma. RIP Mom I love u!

Hi, there has not been a memorial for Mom. I agree that she was a wonderful person and deserves to be remembered in a loving and meaningful way. It is really sad that no such memorial has been done, but unfortunately there were a number of reasons that made this very difficult. First, she chose to donate her body to science. She believed strongly that once she passed, her soul would be in Heaven and there was no need to be sentimental about the body left here on earth. As such, there was no traditional burial or funeral. This also precluded any involvement or help from a funeral home, funeral director, cemetery site or other such service. Second, ideally we would have had a burial Mass at Our Savior Church where she had been a member since the late 1970s. Unfortunately, Mom had had a big falling out with the priest there. In addition, he never called me back after we spoke briefly the day she died. We could have potentially tried to do a Mass at another church but this would have been difficult and probably frowned upon by the other clergy. Third, we considered having a casual memorial service, tentatively sometime in June of that year. Sadly, Mom's house was in very bad shape, and it would have been difficult to do anything like that there. I was not available to plan or help with anything further after that time.

Mom's ashes were returned to me about a year after she passed. I also have Dad's here as well. My plan has been to scatter or lay them to rest together along with some sort of memorial plaque, hopefully somewhere that was meaningful to them. I am hoping to be able to do this near where they first met and were married but am not sure yet if that is an option. This would be a good place to be able to go to remember them and have closure. I have not been able to arrange any of this yet, but it is a priority of mine in the coming months. I will post details of that here once I know. In the meantime, if you are in Mobile, or if Brittany is and you are in touch, you are welcome to plan a service, memorial or remembrance of any kind and let us know here.
