Patti's obituary
Patti Hong was a caring mother, sister, and friend. She left this world on April 20, 2022 after a battle with aggressive brain cancer.
Patti was born to Raymond and Shirley Moore on October 22, 1958 in Huntington, West Virginia. She spent her childhood in the ‘holler’ and was a proud West Virginian. As a young adult, Patti moved to Florida where she lived for 38 years, working many different jobs in the restaurant business. Patti was committed to her work, and was a beloved manager at the many restaurants she served and managed at. She has two wonderful children, Robert Tyler Crown and Kristen Alisanne Crown.
In her free time, Patti loved to be outside in her yard, having a cigarette and chatting with friends and family. Although over the last year her illness took away much of her independence and strength, she never lost her sense of humor and care for others.
A celebration of life in Florida is in the process of being scheduled in the coming days/couple weeks – please continue to check her CaringBridge site for updates (https://www.caringbridge.org/…) An additional celebration in West Virginia will be scheduled for later on in the summer.
In lieu of sending flowers, her children would ask you to donate in her honor to one of the causes that meant the most to her:
- SPCA of Tampa Bay (Largo, FL Facility) - Our Mom loved all of the dogs she owned, most recently her two rescue dogs Mio and Honey Bun. She was heartbroken when she could no longer take care of them due to brain cancer and put them up for adoption. She has been a big supporter of rescue groups and wants to continue to support animals in our society. In her honor, we are raising money to dedicate some part of the facility after her (TBD: Working on details). You can donate here: https://spcatampabay.org/dona…. In the comments section, please write: "In memory of Patricia Sue Hong for memorial"
- United Way of the River Cities (Western West Virginia) - Our Mom is proud of where she grew up and has been a champion of supporting those most vulnerable in the community. Huntington, West Virginia is the epicentre of the opioid epidemic in the US and my Mom always looked to help those most in need. You can donate here: https://donate.unitedwayriver… and put 'In memory of Patti Hong' in address line 2.
American Brain Tumor Association - The past 11 months have been incredibly difficult for our Mom and she has said she doesn't want anyone else to go through this. There is still no cure for glioblastoma and we want no one else to go through this terrible disease. You can donate here: https://give.abta.org/give/26… "What would you like your donation to support?," select "Research", Check "Dedicate my donation in honor or in memory of someone", put Patti's name and email (hongpatti@gmail.com)
