Patricia's obituary
Patricia, or Patty as she was better known, was born in Chicago on October 9th, 1952 to Bridget and James Wright. In 1974, she married Rod Harwood in Minneapolis, MN and the two of them had a son, Travis, in 1981.
A twenty-five year survivor of multiple myeloma, she became heavily involved in the local support community for the disease and generously offered her counsel and expertise to anyone who needed it. In 1997, she founded the Twin Cities Myeloma Support Group, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds, and led the organization until her retirement in 2016. In the same year, she received the Board Citation Award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in recognition of her outstanding contributions and tireless fundraising efforts. Friends and colleagues of Patty say new patients gravitated to her as a figure of comfort and hope and she happily continued giving them her time well after she retired.
Patty is preceded in death by her parents Bridget and James, brother Jimmy and husband Rod. She is survived by her son Travis, her sisters Sandy and Karen, nephews Dustin, Chase and Tanner and cousins Jody and Steve and their children Laura and Chad.
The family of Patty wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr.Lacy, her cherished lifelong friends and young neighbor Jamie. In lieu of flowers, it was Patty's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the International Myeloma Foundation (myeloma.org)
