Patty's obituary
Patricia Arlene Goodman
June 21, 1953 – August 12, 2021
Patty Goodman, age 68, of Georgetown, Indiana died peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021 in her Colorado home after courageously battling many ailments. She was surrounded by her beloved family in her final days.
Patty is survived by her two children, Karen Goodman and Brian Goodman, her son-in-law (Matt Kohl), daughter-in-law (Erin Goodman), and sweet granddaughter (Kali Goodman).
Patricia was born on June 21, 1953, in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Frank Alvin and Doris Biel and grew up in Clarksville, Indiana. She was a smart and talented girl, and was involved in marching band (playing the clarinet) until the director decided she should be a pom pom girl because of her beauty. She graduated high school and then went to the University of Louisville (‘74) with an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant certificate, and graduated from Indiana University Southeast ('91) with a Bachelor Degree in General Studies. Patty worked for Drs. Pierce and Mitchell Dentistry, then spent several years with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp as a Specialist and Supervisor. However, it was at Spaulding University where she found her true calling - helping students with their education and career goals. After a long and successful career as Director of Graduate Admissions, she retired in December 2018 from Spaulding University.
Besides spending time with and consistently spoiling her children, “grandpups”, and friends, Patty had a passion for scuba diving, traveling (especially to the ocean/beach or to see her children), Hoosier basketball with Bobby Knight, spending hours cutting the grass of her beloved Indiana property on her riding John Deer tractor (she claimed that was her zen time), and helping others. She was a bright light, easy laugher, and touched many lives with her deep generosity and fun, adventurous spirit. She loved her family and friends with her whole heart, and her children were blessed with the selfless and sacrificial love of a completely devoted mother. There was nothing she wouldn't do to ensure they had what they needed and wanted.
To honor her wishes of being cremated and having a sea burial, Patty's children and respective family traveled to the Cayman Islands in November 2023 to spread her ashes in her favorite aquamarine waters. It was there in Grand Cayman, back in 2002, that she introduced her children to her passion of scuba diving, with both Karen and Brian later becoming certified scuba divers just like her. Patty made it no secret to anyone that would listen that her children were her greatest treasure, her world - she loved them endlessly. And while we are devastated that her journey came to an end, her spirit will continue to spread through those that knew her, like a ripple in calm water.
To celebrate her legacy of love, laughter, compassion, and having FUN, Patty's children will be hosting a Celebration of Life service in Plantation Hall at Huber's Orchard and Winery on Sunday, April 28, from 11:30AM - 2:30PM. Her children would be honored if her loved ones would join in the celebration. Please RSVP, as food and drinks will be served.
