Pat's obituary

Patricia Elizabeth (Gordon) Davis was born on March 7, 1947, in New York, NY, to the late Charles Gordon and late Sadie Moore. Patricia spent her formative years in New York and Delaware. She accepted Christ at an early age.

When she was 13 years old, Pat and her family moved to California, where she attended and graduated from Centennial High School in Compton, California in 1965. Pat started her career immediately after graduation, accepting an administrative position at TransAmerica Corporation.

A few years following graduation, Pat married Charles Davis and from this union came her only child, Desiree Davis in 1973. She later relocated to Delaware and began working at Delaware State College (DSU) before transitioning to The University of Delaware where she became the Associate Director of Management Information Systems in the Information Technologies Division. It was during this time that Patricia’s counseling ministry blossomed as the advisor for the University of Delaware Gospel Choir and Student Bible Study.

During her time on the East Coast, Pat became the grandmother of two of her most favorite people on the planet, grandson’s Dominique and Bakari and her name was unofficially changed to “Nye Nye”. Pat enjoyed meeting new people and traveling, and her vacations were spent in the company of her family traveling across the globe. Trips to California and Georgia to spend time with her sisters and their families were frequent stops amongst her travels.

After the passing of her mother, Sadie, Pat became affectionately known to many as Mama Pat. She became the glue that held both her immediate and extended family together. Her care was genuine and her wisdom unrivaled. Pat’s spiritual maturity was obvious to so many. It was during this time that she answered God’s call and became a licensed minister in 1997.

Pat retired from The University of Delaware after 28 years of service in 2006 and fulfilled her dream of moving to the Caribbean Island of Saint Maarten. Once settled there, she became very active, serving faithfully at Christian Fellowship Assembly Church. Although she was immensely enjoying life in the Islands, Pat returned to the United States in 2017 to provide care for her sister Michelle, in Atlanta, Georgia. There she joined Wesley Chapel Church, devotedly serving her church family until her call to eternity.

Pat’s life was one of infectious joy. She was the family matriarch, and her counsel was beyond her years and education. Everywhere she went she gained a new family born out of her love for God and of people. She will be sorely missed, but fully celebrated because of her commitment to the Kingdom of God and the spiritual legacy she left. She lived and served well.

Pat is survived by her daughter Desiree Davis, her grandsons Dominique (Symone) and Bakari, sisters Sandra Gilbert, Michelle Blair, and Jacqueline Dunn, nephews Levell Dunn, Brian Dunn, and David Dunn, and extended family across America and the Caribbean.
