Patricia's obituary

Patricia Diane Roberts, age 75, of Oak Park, Illinois, passed away on July 3, 2025, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 3, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, a loving daughter to the late Malcom Arlington Roberts and Shirley Jordan. Patricia had two brothers, Zachariah Hinton and the late Duane Roberts, and two sisters, the late Zar Talodin and Yasu Talodin.

Patricia married Leon Eddings and later Leroy Foster. She had one child with Leon Eddings: Shawn Toinette Eddings Levesque (Toni/Shawn).

Patricia’s memory lives on through her daughter, Shawn Eddings Levesque; her son-in-law, Michael Levesque; her cherished grandchildren, Erin Levesque and Michael Levesque; her sister, Yasu Talodin; and her brother, Zachariah Hinton. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Patricia graduated from Marshall High School in 1967, then earned a B.A. in Nursing from Lewis University. She took great pride in her nursing career, caring for sick and disabled children with deep compassion and unwavering commitment. Patricia would give her last to those she loved—all while giving you a piece of her mind. In every conversation with young people, she led with the directive: focus on your education. She often said, “They can take everything from you but your intelligence,” and she would quote, “God bless the child that’s got his own.

Her life was lived fully—with unmistakable fire, independence, and grace. She had a sharp wit, a generous heart, and a spirit too free to ever be boxed into anyone’s terms but her own. She loved fishing, was an avid reader, and an incredible cook. She was happiest surrounded by family, preparing Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners…her Thanksgiving dressing was nothing short of legendary.

Patricia had enough strength for us all. Life didn’t spare her its knocks, but she met each one with grit and rose above each time. Even in illness, Patricia never surrendered. Diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in December 2024, she met this challenge as she had all others—with resilience and courage. Though pneumonia ultimately took her from us, she exhibited her fighting spirit to the very end. Her final words to her daughter Shawn and grandchildren Erin and Michael were: “I love you.

Patricia—Ms. Pat, Mom, Grandma Pat—thank you. Thank you for your love, your wisdom, your fire, and your faith. Thank you for showing us how to live boldly, think deeply, and love fiercely. And while we ache in your absence, we rejoice in knowing you are free. Free from pain. Free from struggle. We love you to the moon and back—for all eternity.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.

Rest in peace.

-Your family, Shawn, Michael, Erin and Michael
