Patty was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on August 17, 1956, to Catherine T. Kavetski and Louis J Kavetski. As a military dependent, Patty traveled to, and lived in many countries throughout the world, and eventually settled in San Antonio, TX where she met and married the love of her life, Vernon Batton, who preceded her in death four years earlier.
