Patricia's obituary
Patricia Berry of Austin, Texas passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2023, at the age of 88 while holding her daughter Sonya’s hand. Loving mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, she was a kind, generous, and gracious person who will be remembered and missed by many.
An accomplished educator, Patricia taught for many years at both the high school and college level. She was a lifelong learner as well as a spiritual seeker, a voter registrar, a mediator, and an avid reader who loved poetry, conversations with friends, and discussion groups. When she moved to Austin in 2019, she began taking classes through the UT Extension program including astronomy and gender identity. Her passions included the Enneagram, astrology, the I Ching, and the Tarot. Many afternoons were spent huddled around books and printouts, debating the particulars. Her approach was intellectual and researched, even when it came to the mystical.
Patricia spent many years teaching in Texas before moving to Taos, NM where she raised daughters Sonya and Tanya, continued her teaching career and discovered and nurtured a meaningful and supportive community. Among her many achievements, she became Academy Head for Liberal Arts, Assistant Director for Instruction, and Academic Division Head of Liberal and Fine Arts at UNM-Taos. She proudly served on the Northern New Mexico Community College task force that created a permanent facility for a campus in Taos.
After retirement in Taos, Patricia spent her time with friends and helping to take care of her grandchildren, Kobe and Eben. She moved to Austin in 2019 to be closer to family.
Patricia is survived by her daughter, Sonya Fehér, brother Robert M. Berry, sister-in-law Barbara Berry, niece Darcy Larson, cousins Susan Arnold and Florence Ann Priebe, grandchildren James Webb, Kobe Bellas, Eben Bellas, Ever Fehér-Henry, as well as the many who considered her to be a precious second mother. She was preceded in death by daughter Tanya Fehér and husband Guilford Webb.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Austin and especially nurse Beth and NP Christie for their support and care.
