Parnell's obituary
Parnell was known for his sharp wit, his contagious laugh, and the way he made you feel like you were his Number One. His comedic timing was top tier, and he had a way of delivering catchphrases that stuck with you long after the conversation ended.
If you knew Parnell, you probably heard him say, “From the pillar to the post,” or “Have I told you lately that I love you?” His go-to wisdom, “Fight the battle,” was both a reminder and a rally cry. And no matter what the moment called for, he had a phrase—sometimes sharp, sometimes sweet, but always unforgettable.
At a young age, Parnell stood out as a natural competitor. He was an excellent basketball player, a skilled tennis player, and a sharp chess opponent. Whether on the court or at the table, he played to win—but always with heart and humor.
Parnell leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his children: Lloyd W. Sylvester, Anthony Sylvester, Theresa Felix (Jose), Kelia Sylvester, and Patricia Mitchell. He was a proud grandfather to Jayla Felix and Angel Felix, and a loving brother to Victoria Hicks (Wallace III), Regina Jackson (James), and Cora Shorter. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Sylvester, who remained a constant source of strength throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Shanita Sylvester, father, Lloyd K. Sylvester, and his brother, John Sylvester.
Parnell will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in every story, laugh, and catchphrase we carry with us. A homegoing service will be held on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New Creations Ministries, 5144 13th Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55417. The family welcomes all who knew and loved Parnell to join us in celebrating his life and the unforgettable mark he left on this world.
