Parish's obituary

Parish Jermaine Newsome, 54, earned his eternal wings on Sunday, September 28, 2025. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 3rd, 1971. Jermaine was the loving son of Robert (deceased) and Justine (Newsome) Pierce. He was raised in the East Side of Bridgeport, CT donning the nicknames “The Great Maine”, “D-Bo”, the “Drill Master”, and the “President of the Drill Committee”. He was truly a leader in his community from an early age coining the nickname “Danny Black” during his pop warner days, following his favorite Dallas Cowboys quarterback Danny White, with his extreme competitive nature.

He was the best at all that he did and was not just competitive in sports but in the classroom as well as he was skipped a grade in middle school and transferred to a private school in Westport. He returned to the Bridgeport school system his second year of high school and graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1989. The summer of 1989, Jermaine conjured up the courage to enlist in the United States Army and served his beloved country honorably for four years as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic.

Towards the end of Fall 1993 in the month of December, Jermaine received word of the birth of his beautiful baby girl, Taniesha Bland. The month after the birth of his first born he would begin his career as a Warehouse Associate at Sprint North Supply in Milford, CT until the multinational outsourcing and distribution company Bunzl bought the space in 1999 employing Jermaine for 25 years as a Warehouse Receiver. In July of 2006, Jermaine would become the father of another beautiful baby girl, Payton Tamara Newsome.

Jermaine fostered close connections with his family and most definitely with his friends from all over the world as he was an avid traveler. Although scary at first sight due to his size and peeling glare, his calmness was comforting, his laughter was contagious, and his love was unmatched. Jermaine loved football, was a hard worker, and as he would tell it and some would say its proven, was the best at spades. Jermaine was loving, kind, loyal, and could put a smile on anyone’s face.

He is survived by his mother, Justine Pierce, his two daughters, Taniesha Vicente (Anthony Vicente), Payton Newsome, his grandson Pierre Huggins, five sisters Cheryllean (Vereen) Myers (Kevin Myers), Terra (Newsome) Sorrells (Robert Sorrells), Kora (Jones) Eaddy (Keigae Eaddy), Olivia Jones, Laprecious (Pierce) McCaden, three brothers Robert Pierce, Calvin Washington, Lorenzo Pierce, 25 nieces and nephews, nine great nieces and nephews, and one great great neice.

Services will be held Monday, October 6, 2025, at 1830 hours at the Holy Tabernacle Church of God In Christ at 2271 North Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06604. Viewing starts at 1830 hours. Service will start promptly at 1930 hours. Following services please stay for repass in the basement.
