Pamela's obituary
Pamela Lawson (née Griffin) was also known as Trish by some friends. She was born in Harvey, Illinois and spent most of her life in the southwest Chicagoland and Michiana areas.
At just 58 years old, she left behind her daughters Christine Webster (son-in-law Christopher and grandson Charlie, 1), Angela Doster (son-in-law Eric, granddaughters Aubrie, 15, and Skylar, 11), and beloved dog Jagger. She is also missed by her sister, Patricia Cantu (Griffin), and ex-husband, father to her two daughters, and lifelong friend Roger (Dale) Lawson. With her passing, she is reunited with her father William Griffin, former partner Daniel Schwenk, partner Stephen Smith, and her dogs Iggy, Twinkie, and Mabel.
At her best, she was a fun, daring, creative, curious, spiritual, witty, and hardworking electric beauty of a mother and grandmother to the children and animals in her life. At her worst, she belonged to her addictions, which were enabled by the narcolepsy that challenged her most of her life, her peers, and this country’s broken healthcare and judicial systems. Please remember her at her best, because that’s who she truly was.
If you, or someone you know, is struggling with drug misuse, abuse, or addiction, let this loss serve as a reminder to ask for support and seek professional help. There are so many free and accessible resources available to show you that recovery is possible.
Per Pam's wishes, there will not be a funeral or memorial service. If you’d like to make a positive impact on Pam’s behalf, we invite you to donate money, time, or supplies in her name to your local animal advocacy organization, as she loved animals—especially dogs.
“And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed.” –Maya Angelou
