Oswald's obituary
Oswald Davila, 76, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away on September 29, 2021 after a two month battle with pneumonia. Oswald was born on October 12, 1944 to Remigio and Dora Davila in Iquitos, Peru. Oswald loved to tell stories of growing up in Iquitos in the Amazon jungle. He was always very driven and determined to have a better life for himself. Oswald prioritized education, knowing that was his ticket to success. He would work during the day, and go to school at night. He even attended college in Peru, studying computer programming, but was unable to finish due to his involvement in political protests. Oswald was sent to America in 1974. His goal was to achieve the "American Dream": Have a family, own a home, own a car, to be well-off, and to retire early.
Oswald arrived in New York in 1974, his first job was in a factory. In 1975 he met Barbara and they immediately fell in love. They wed on December 19, 1975, going on to have two children, Zenna Selene and Jennifer Sara. They started their life together in North Bergen, New Jersey, then moved to River Falls, Wisconsin. Finally, in 1982, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, to get away from the cold weather. Oswald worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst for Pinal County and for the City of Mesa. He retired in 2006 at the age of 62. At the time of his death Oswald owned two homes, two cars, and had a family that loved him. He achieved the "American Dream" that he had set out to achieve.
Education was always a priority for Oswald, and he pushed his children to also value education. His daughter, Jennifer, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications degree from Arizona State University in 2004, the first in her family to finish college. Jennifer also went on to earn her Masters in Education in 2006, and began a teaching career that same year. She has been teaching high school for 16 years in Arizona, ensuring that her own students know the importance of education that her father valued. As education was so important to Oswald, he left each of his grandchildren college trust funds so that they may also have that opportunity and success in life.
Oswald was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family who meant more to him than anything else in the world. He was the self-proclaimed "Duke of Earl", "King of Clowns", and "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man". He lived his life true to the song, "I Did It My Way".
Oswald is survived by his wife Barbara, his daughters Zenna and Jennifer, his grandchildren Sebastian, Maddox, Ryder, and Mila, and his siblings Dora, Ludo, and Gonzalo.
