Oscar's obituary

At his home in Woodland, California, Oscar Pacheco Sr. died on October 11, 2020. He was 66.

Oscar was a leader, athlete, husband, dad, grandpa, friend, brother, and lineman. A real force of nature. An icon also known by nicknames Big O, Daddy "O," OLP, Pomps, and PanDad.

Oscar was a scoutmaster, softball coach, and weekend morning guitar player. He was his granddaughters' number one fan, on the sidelines at soccer games and the front row for stage productions. He brought people together, organizing neighborhood-wide kick balls games, block parties, grill outs, keggers, concerts, and water balloon fights. And, no matter where Oscar traveled, he always ran into someone he knew and always made time to reconnect.

Oscar rolled with it, baby, living inspired by his favorite song by Steve Winwood. His existence was full of belly laughs balanced with hard work. He was the king of good times and radiated energy with the strength of the sun.

Oscar battled pancreatic cancer with profound courage for more than four years. He was committed to providing for his family and is survived by his wife (Karen), five children (Oscar Jr. and Celia, Maureen and Nate, and Maxx), two granddaughters (Celise & Annabelle), and numerous other family members and friends. He was unbreakable.

Oscar was surrounded by superheroes. He sincerely appreciated his incredible friends at the Woodland Healthcare Cancer Infusion Center and the thoughtful care provided by Dr. Sonia Reichert.

Oscar was the first Latinx Student Body President at Woodland High School. He controlled the mound pitching shutouts at UC Davis, instigated epic kitchen dances parties with his signature moves, and cooked huevos rancheros with breakfast potatoes like a master chef. He battled the elements climbing power poles for more than thirty years to restore electricity and warmth to his community. He was brave with an untamed soul.

Oscar loved deeply and was loved deeply. He was the life of the party, and he will be forever missed. Join us in honoring and celebrating the legendary life of Oscar Luis Pacheco, Sr. by filling your space with the sounds of Big O's all-time favorite songs and raising a glass to an incredible man.

No celebration of life is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Oscar Pacheco to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, NAMI Yolo, or the UCSF Cancer Research Center.
