1965, Woodland, CA, USA
I first met O on the baseball field at Camarena Park. We became fast friends and the rest was history as they say. My older brother was also good friends with Oscar's older brother Jimmy. (both Jimmy's)
Oscar became not only my friend but a close friend of my family's. My parents adored Oscar and he stayed in our home often. We never spoke much about Oscar's family life, we just kind of left it alone. I knew it wasn't perfect but because Oscar was such a happy individual it never really came up. One of my funniest memories of Oscar was one night he spent at our home. We had been out cruising main and it got late, so as he would often spent the night at our house. As you have seen or knew Oscar had this flowing mane, combination of black and red. Some time around 10:00am I heard the bedroom door opened quickly and close quickly, it was my mother. The next thing I knew my father came crashing through the door asking me "what the hell I thought I was doing bringing a girl home with me?" Oscar popped up and said "Larry, its me," We laughed about that for many years and I will never forget it. More to come, the memories are endless.
My Brotha was all of those those things but he was also "remarkable" which he remined us of always!!!
