Oscar's obituary
Oscar Garibay Medua Sr., a man of profound dedication to his family and country, passed away suddenly on March 1, 2026. He was 87 years old.
Born in 1938 in Laguna, Philippines, Oscar’s journey of service began in 1957 when he successfully entered the United States Navy. After rigorous testing and training, he was assigned to the CAG-1 USS Boston, serving honorably for six years. It was during his station in Boston that he met the love of his life, Therese Roberts. The two were wed in 1961, beginning a 56-year journey together until her passing from ALS in 2017.
Following his naval service, Oscar became a fixture in the Boston hospitality scene. He spent decades with the Sheraton Corporation, most notably at the Kon Tiki Ports, where his work ethic led him from waiter to the management team, retiring in 1990. In 1979, he pivoted to the insurance industry, serving as a Field Rating Representative for ISO before becoming one of the six original field representatives for Massachusetts Property Insurance.
Oscar retired on September 10, 2004, to devote himself to his greatest joy: his grandchildren. Even in retirement, his industrious spirit kept him working part-time until 2018.
He is survived by his three children, Maria, Gerard, and Oscar Jr.; his siblings Emelita, Celso, and Anna; and his four beloved grandchildren, Erin, Ian, Isabelle, and Sofia. His memory will also be cherished by a large extended family spanning London, Texas, Australia, and the Philippines.
