Oscar's obituary
Oscar Hernandez, 83, of Miami Lakes, Florida entered into the presence of the presence of our Lord at 6:20 pm on Sunday, October 11th 2015 at Palmetto General Hospital.
Oscar was born on April 18, 1932 in Arroyo Apolo, Havana, Cuba to Esperanza and Oscar, Sr.
He attended the University of Havana majoring in Commercial Sciences.
He married Elvira Duenas on November 16th, 1957. She was called home by our Lord & joined him on September 7th, 2017.
Also surviving are his three sons Dr. Oscar Hernandez, Jr, DMD, Alejandro Hernandez, and published writer Xavier Hernandez.
Oscar migrated the family from Cuba to the United States in 1974 with the help of the late Rafaela and Andres Gonzalez who had already settled in the small town of Dover, New Jersey.
An active Christian Catholic, Oscar taught Sunday school and lead many special groups within the church community of Holy Rosary Church in Dover. He was also instrumental in preparing, meticulously so, the sacred vestries and Blessed Sacrament during Holy Week.
He retired to South Florida in 1998 where he enjoyed the Cuban community of Hialeah/Miami and warmer climate.
Gardening, decorating his home and enjoying all the festive holidays with a special touch and attention to details in the area of decor.
He loved, beyond measure, his nephews & nieces: Jodie, Janis, Oscar, Michael, Alex and Keith - as well as extended family Adriana Gonzalez, Aldrin Gonzalez, Dr. Andrea Gonzalez, MD, Zahyda Leyton, and Mayra Hernandez.
Oscar was a gentle man. He was the perfect counselor, father, husband, and grandfather.
He considered the United States the best country in the world. He lived with a sense of honor and a set of ethics/principles rarely seen in this day and age. He accomplished so much during his lifetime, yet kept his humble spirit of service to others intact. His creativity, his family values, and his immersive enjoyment of the holidays will greatly be missed.
