Oscar's obituary
Oscar Octavio Baca went home to Jesus on March 19, 2024 at age 62.
Oscar was born to Ernesto and Maria de la Concepcion Baca on January 27, 1962 in El Paso, Texas. In the mid-60's his family moved to Oakland, California, and in 1970, his family moved to Morenci, Arizona. As a child, he liked to ride his bicycle around the hilly streets of Old Morenci and Stargo.
Oscar moved back to Texas to attend college at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in 1980. He met his wife, Patricia, in 1981 in Juarez, Mexico on the dance floor. They married in 1986 and went on to have their son, Oscar, the following year. In the early years of his marriage, he lived with his family in El Paso, but like his father moved his family to Morenci, Arizona in 1990 where he worked as a chemist for Phelps Dodge and, later, Freeport McMoRan. His work with Freeport as a chemist brought him to Safford, Arizona in 2005 and Tucson, Arizona in 2012.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, husband, and Papa to two granddaughters, Oscar also loved riding motorcycles, drinking coffee with friends and family, enjoying local music, hosting cookouts, camping, and meeting regularly with his church congregation. Oscar was one to enjoy the simple things in life and, above all, loved and appreciated all the people in his life. Although he was raised as a Catholic, in 1991 he became serious about his faith and gave his life to God at the Potter's House Church in Clifton-Morenci. Since that time, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
Oscar joins his parents and his wife Patricia in Heaven. He is survived by his brother, Ernie; his son, Oscar; Oscar's wife, Alyssa; and his two granddaughters.
As Oscar was a man who strived to live out his life by loving those around him, it's fitting to share one of his favorite scriptures with you here: 1 Corinthians 13:13 "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
