Oluwakemi's obituary
Oluwakemi Adebola Fafowora passed away on January 27th, 2026 at the Western Maryland Rehabilitation Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, USA, where she had lived for several months.
Although Kemi spent her final months in a rehabilitation center, she courageously overcame numerous health challenges throughout her life.
Born on April 29th, 1978 as one of six children, she contracted measles within her first year. This illness significantly altered her life's trajectory. Doctors predicted she would not survive, and if she did, they expected she would remain in a vegetative state. Defying those expectations, Kemi survived and achieved milestones others thought impossible: she saw, sat, walked, talked, attended school, and earned an associate degree. She may have reached these goals slowly, but she accomplished every one. Sadly, unknown health issues caught up with her in recent years, but she fought bravely until her passing.
Kemi loved agriculture, regularly planting fruits and vegetables that flourished. Each year, she shared her harvest with all her neighbors. She remembered every birthday and delighted her nieces and nephews with candies and cookies. Her father relied on her for banking errands.
Despite physical limitations, Kemi made sure her presence was felt wherever she went. Even while bedridden in her last years, she continued to build meaningful relationships, forming strong bonds with caregivers and roommates.
She leaves behind four sisters, a brother, nieces, nephews, and a great niece.
Funeral arrangements are ongoing and will be announced once finalized.
