I am deeply saddened by the news of Kemi Fafowora’s passing. Kemi was a truly loving and caring soul, and her memory is one I have carried with me since our childhood.

We met at St. Margaret Girls Grammar School, Ilesa, where we were classmates in JSS 1F. From those early days, Kemi stood out for her kindness. She always looked out for me, often sharing her snacks and water without hesitation. Those small but thoughtful gestures meant so much to me and have stayed in my heart all these years.

Although we lost contact after I left secondary school, I never forgot her. I searched for her several times on social media but couldn’t find her. Last month, the desire to reconnect with her grew even stronger, especially when our secondary school classmates formed a WhatsApp group. I reached out to another classmate who also knew her younger brother, Sesan, hoping to get her contact, but sadly, nothing came of it.

This afternoon, hearing the news of her passing from a classmate broke my heart. I couldn’t help but think that maybe if I had asked directly in our school group, someone might have connected me to her. That thought brought a wave of sadness but I find comfort in believing that Kemi is now at rest.

Thank you, Kemi, for being such a beautiful part of my childhood memories. Your kindness left a mark, and you will always be remembered with love.

May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
