My heartfelt condolences to the wife, children, siblings, family, and friends of Egbon Yinka, affectionately known to many of us as Man Y during our time together in Block 34B in Sofia, Bulgaria. While may have evolved over the years, the essence of the relationships we built remain timeless. I had the honour of knowing him as a brother.
One of my fondest memories is the day he picked up a letter for me from the reception and discovered the connection we shared through my Uncle, whom he had known during his industrial attachment at Texaco Nigeria Ltd. He fondly referred to my uncle by his initials, SOB. From that moment on, he embraced me like family, displaying the warmth and generosity that truly embodied Egbon Yinka. His readiness to lend a helping hand and his talent for bringing joy to those around him are just a few of the qualities that made him so special.
Egbon Yinka had a remarkable gift for connecting with everyone, and his unwavering support was a source of comfort for many. As we come together to mourn his loss, let's also take a moment to celebrate the beautiful life he lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and kindness.
Though death may take our loved ones from us, it cannot take the memories we hold dear. In our minds, we cherish the moments we shared, and in our hearts, we carry the love he bestowed upon us. Our faith assures us that one day we will be reunited, free from the pain of separation. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Your memory will forever remain a cherished part of our lives.
As I conclude my tribute, I would like to share a poignant excerpt that I believe Egbon Yinka would say to us:
“Ponder my friend,
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you must be.
So be up and doing”
