Olivia Canak, beloved and precious daughter of 28 years, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 in San Francisco. She was born September 21, 1991 in Portland, Maine at Mercy Hospital to Mitch and June Canak, her proud parents. Olivia, (nicknamed Ollie) went to Verdi Elementary, Billinghurst Middle School and Reno High School in Reno, Nevada. An exceptional student, Ollie carried a 3.5 + average throughout her entire school career. A gifted artist, she received the Golden Key Award with the Scholastic Arts Competition and went to Carnegie Hall to receive her award. She went to Next Generation Academy where she was one of the young supervising staff with the program and an outstanding leader. She then went to Los Angeles, got her cosmetology license and became a cosmetologist.

Moving back to Berkeley to be closer to family and friends, she began attending Berkeley City College, and then received a full scholarship to UC Berkeley where, again, she maintained a 4.0 GPA while working her way through school and was recently awarded a scholarship honoring the legacy of Japanese American women at UC Berkeley. Ollie was incredibly witty, funny, humorous, beautiful, highly creative, sensitive, and loved unconditionally. She loved animals, people, plants. Puppies, little kids, and growing things blossomed all around her. Her unforgettable beauty and wit, humor, deep compassion, generosity, and heart will be profoundly missed by her 3 siblings, her parents, aunt, friends, schoolmates, teachers, and the Next Generation Academy.
