Oly's obituary
Oliver Weldon Zerba (Oly)
Born 7-27-1934 in Baker Oregon. Died 10-2-21
Oly lost his battle with dementia and died in his home on Zerba Mountain where he lived the past 65 years of his life.
Oly grew up in Baker Oregon with his parents Dale and Allie and his sister Virginia 3, brothers Delbert, Ralph and Darrell. He was always helping his dad following him in the woods carrying his tools.
Oly joined the USMarines and fought in the Korean war. He met his wife Marilyn Silver of 65 years in Sandy Oregon
They married in California had their first son Clyde while stationed at 29 Palms. He left the Marines in 55 came to Washington in 56 and found his dream to have his own saw mill live in the mountains and raise his family. They had 3 more children, Brenda, Diane and Michael.
Oly loved life in the woods making a living for his family. He and his wife Lyn enjoyed spending evenings reading, watching tv, helping the children with school work and talking about the days events. We often churned butter and churned our own ice cream. Milking cows was no pleasure but a way of life living in the country.
He loved cutting big trees and the last tree he cut was 26" across and over 50 ' high. This will make lots of fire wood and give other trees a chance to grow. He liked to carve wood and made trucks for many a grand children and great grand kids. The last truck made was given to his great great grand son Leo. He also donated many trucks to VFW at Christmas for their toy drive. He liked working with his hands and giving big bear hugs.
We will all miss Dad and our Mom and we know in our heart that they are in heaven together watching over us leaving the legacy of Zerba Mountain with their children Brenda Zerba Horsley and Michael Zerba who have a piece of his legacy on this Mountain that is God's country. We are blessed.
Lyn and Oly will be buried at Summit Vly Cemetry at their family plot.
