Olga Viola Courtney of Stone Mountain, Georgia, passed away at the age of 89 after a long illness, on Sunday, August 4, 2019 in Conyers, Georgia.

She was raised in the family home built by her father in the small town of Antilla. She
graduated from Colegio Luz y Caballero where she learned typing, bookkeeping, sewing, and embroidery. Subsequently, she met her husband Archie Lee Courtney during his many travels to Cuba in the 1950’s. They were married in the Facey family home on October 9th, 1956. The following year they made their home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they raised two children, Stephen and Sabrina.

While raising her family, she received a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree from the Philadelphia Community College. She worked for the Philadelphia School System for many years as a Teacher’s Aide. By the 1990’s, she retired and moved to Lilburn, Georgia to be closer to her daughter, and to help raise her grandchildren.

Olga enjoyed traveling. One year she won a trip to Spain by selling World Book Encyclopedias. While on that trip she delighted in taking a ferry to Morocco, Africa. Olga, an award-winning artist, had a passion for designing and making ceramic vases and sculptures. Some depicted scenes of her childhood home of Antilla. Many family members received them as gifts.
