Olga's obituary

Olga Alonso Lopez

July 12, 1940 – October 28, 2024

Olga Alonso Lopez, 84, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, October 28, 2024, under the loving care of the staff, at Edgewood Health, in Three Rivers, Michigan. Born on July 12, 1940, in La Habana Cuba, Olga’s life journey was marked by her unwavering faith in the word of God, her love for her family, and exceptional talents.

Olga grew up and attended school in La Habana, Cuba. She graduated (Catholic School for girls) Colegio del Apostolado del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, 1956, and earned Bachiller en Letras, 1959. She was steadfast in her walk with the Lord, through prayer, and always eager to learn more. As a young adult her only brother and her had multiple in-depth discussions on religious differences and beliefs, until one day she decided to follow in his steps and baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist faith. Olga continued her passion and education at Seminario Adventista de Las Antillas, graduating with a degree as a Bible Instructor, 1966.

Affectionally known as “Olguita” to her friends and loved ones, she was an icon to many who gave their lives to Christ through her humble teaching and ministry, in her beloved church, Iglesia Adventista de Marianao. Olga fell in love after a short courtship and married in 1969. Blessed with three children by 1974, Olga cherished every moment spent with her new family and pursuing her dreams.

In 1980, together with husband and young children, Olga was able to move her family to the United States of America. Sadly, as with some marriages, Olga and her husband did not agree to disagree on things that mattered to her, and she decided to separate by 1985. As a divorced mom of three children, Olga was determined to be the kind of mother who gave her all to raised them right. She was their protector, their teacher, and their guiding light. A beacon of strength and love, who dedicated her life to nurturing and supporting them in every way possible.

Olga was exceptionally gifted and talented. Her artistry and creativity in handicrafts was admired by all who knew her. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy and solace in creating beautiful things. Dressmaking, quilting, needlework, crochet, knitting, drawing, painting, reading, and poetry, were some of her interests.

Proceeded in death by her parents, Fermin Alonso and Delfina Lopez Hernandez, as well as her beloved son (youngest of her three children), Miguel Benjamin Guevara, and ex-husband (on friendly terms in the love of Christ) Jorge Santo Guevara. She is survived by her two other children, (son) Jorge Pablo Guevara , (Daughter) Inalbis Guevara-Schalon and her husband Fredderick A Schalon; her caring brother Eradio Alonso and wife Miriam Alonso; (nephew) Kenneth Alonso and wife Luz Amparo Alonso; (niece) Keren Parsons and her husband Terry Parsons; 4 grand-nephews and 3 grand-nieces.

Olga, a strong woman of faith, love, determination, and perseverance. Her memory will remain in our hearts and the hearts of those she touched. This is not Goodbye, just a temporary, until we meet again.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 – KJV)
