Norbert's obituary
Norbert Allen Shembarger, born on March 27, 1949, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family in Eau Claire, Michigan. Norbert, a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather, lived a rich and fulfilling life defined by his devotion to his family and his passion for work.
Raised by his late parents, Norbert Shembarger and Olive (Sweet) Shembarger, Norbert grew up with his brothers Steve and Jim Shembarger, forging a bond that will last a lifetime. He found a partner for life in Deborah (Billings) Shembarger, his devoted wife who stood by his side through the years. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their children Drew (Shayla) Shembarger, Niki Shembarger, Joanna (Mike Cohan) Shembarger, Joe (Nikki Nevins) LaGrow, and Melinda Clark.
Norbert's work ethic was unparalleled. For over forty years, he proudly owned and operated Norbert Shembarger Construction Co., Inc., building more than just structures but also a legacy that he ultimately passed on to his son, Drew. His professional accomplishments were matched by his commitment to his community, where he was respected and admired for his unwavering integrity.
Above all, Norbert cherished his time with family. His home was a hub of activity, where laughing and story telling were the heartbeats of gatherings. He rejoiced in the accomplishments of his children and found immense joy in the milestones of his eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His love and teachingd are carried forward by his extended family, including his close friends Julie McComb Kurland, Amy (Jon) Petrasek, niece Tammy (Brian) Collins, cousins Joyce Anderson, aunt and uncle Rita and Gale Hokensin, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at the Rangeline Road Park in Berrien Springs on Saturday June 20th from 11am-2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations for his widow, Deborah Shembarger, are appreciated to help with unexpected expenses.
Norbert's memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. His legacy is evident in the lives he touched and the business that he built, reflecting a life of purpose and love. Norbert Allen Shembarger will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
