Norb's obituary
Norbert Louis Donegan, 84, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Florida, after a courageous journey with kidney disease.
Born on September 19, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Norb was the son of Norbert Lewis Donegan and Elizabeth McKenna, both of whom preceded him in death. From an early age, he was captivated by the wonder of flight—a passion that would become the defining thread of his life.
Norb proudly served in the United States Air Force, where he deepened his love of aviation and developed the discipline, skill, and calm confidence that would carry him through a long and distinguished career. He went on to fly for Comair and later for Meyer Tool Inc., spending countless hours in the cockpit—the place where he felt most at home. Flying wasn’t just his profession; it was his joy, his freedom, and his art.
Outside the skies, Norb embraced life with a generous spirit. He loved good food, good wine, and the company of the people he cherished. He was happiest surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and meals that brought everyone a little closer. A devoted grandfather, he treasured every moment with his grandchildren and took great pride in watching them grow. His faith was a steady anchor throughout his life, and he remained a devout Catholic until his passing.
Norb is survived by his beloved partner, Carol Donegan; his children Christine Donegan, Kathy Donegan, Megan Donegan (Joe Yazell), Danielle Halfhill (Jim Halfhill), and Mike Donegan; and his many grandchildren: Paul Ramos, Jessica Sellers, Cassie Sellers, Christa Kush, Zachary Talley, Rose Salgado, Tre Halfhill, Makayla Halfhill, Rome Yazell, and Aidyn Yazell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Paula Ramos, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday January 24th at one of Norbert’s favorite restaurants, Oriental Wok, located at 317 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park, KY. From 4:00-8:00. A funeral Mass will be held at a later date after which he will be laid to rest with military honors at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the National Kidney Foundation in Norb’s memory.
Norb lived with purpose, loved deeply, and flew boldly—both in the air and through the chapters of his life. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the skies he mastered, and the countless lives he touched with his warmth and quiet strength.
