Nora's obituary

This is the eulogy of the dearly loved Nora Ann Selja Neidig Perez

b. August 1st 1963

d. January 15th 2025

They say that legends aren’t born.. they are made..

Mom was a free spirit who loved Fleetwood Mac and country music. A child of the '60s, she embraced tie-dye and was passionate about protecting the planet. Classic car shows and concerts were some of her favorite ways to spend time with loved ones. She also found beauty in the stars, the moon, and the sky’s endless glory. God certainly had the paintbrush out on the day she crossed over.

She rarely held a grudge, always offered an empathetic ear, and gave sage advice with diplomacy and grace. A fighter and a lover, she carried her scars - sometimes with pride, other times in silence. She never sought sympathy but was a quiet yet fierce soul who stood for justice and gave a voice to those who didn’t have one. She made everyone feel seen and led by example, upholding principles and respect. Logical yet creative and playful, she was always eager to learn and educate herself.

A passionate New York Yankees fan, she never hesitated to voice her excitement or dismay while watching them play. During family summer vacations, we visited many of the stadiums in the U.S. and Canada. We would also go to theme parks and historical sites. Each year held a new adventure filled with laughter, love, and magic.

Mom left an imprint on everyone she met - whether she knew them for five minutes or fifty years. Each person who crossed her path had a kind word to say about her. She inspired her family, friends, co-workers, and clients in ways we will never forget. Sometimes, just her presence was enough to uplift us. She encouraged us to chase our dreams and was always ready to jump in full steam ahead when needed. Even if she didn’t always agree with our choices, she embraced us wholeheartedly.

Mom was a legend.

“If I live to see the seven wonders

I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end

I’ll never live to match the beauty again” – Fleetwood Mac “Seven Wonders”

Our loved ones are always with us - they protect us in energetic ways we don’t even understand or know - they also shine through in us as a part of us in many of our actions - while it’s bittersweet to lose them, it is a fact of life that we all must submit to when the creator calls us home - the difficult part is the reality that they leave us with on earth - the physical manifestation of their love may appear unseen by the eyes, but it is forever with us in our hearts and souls.

Nora’s mother and father, Dorothy and John Selja, as well as her brothers, Jimmy and Joseph were called home before her. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Charles Perez, her sister and brother, Dorothy and John, and her children, Kristine and Michael. Her legacy lives on through her grandchild, Aidan, who brought endless joy to her life and will carry her love and wisdom forward.

Nora also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews, Joseph, Kenneth, Marissa, Samantha, John Jr., Sabrina, and Myla, whom she held close to her heart as if they were her own. In addition, she is survived by her beloved cousins, their children, and spouses including but not limited to Laura, Paul, Jim, Nicole, Lisa, and Bruce who were not only family but dear friends, sharing in a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories.
