Nirmala's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nirmala Srivastava on February 29, 2024. Born in the auspicious year of 1937, Nirmala was a beacon of warmth and life, imbuing every room she entered with her vivacious spirit.

Nirmala was an accomplished woman, known for her intellect and drive. In 1957, she became the first woman in her family to study abroad post-India independence, graduating with a BA in Political Science from Oxford, UK. This achievement was a testament to her fierce determination and provided a trailblazing path for the women who followed in her footsteps.

A lover of culture and the simpler joys in life, Nirmala found comfort and happiness in various forms of art and delicacies. Her favorite music was by Kishore Kumar, whose songs brought her immense joy and peace. The tales from the Ramayana were close to her heart and she often found tranquility within its pages. Her palate craved the exquisite flavors of Dal Baati, and she savored the warmth of Chai. Her cherished vacation spot was the serene city of Haridwar, where she found solace and reconnect with her roots.

Nirmala was passionate about animals and their wellbeing. Her compassion and empathy extended to all living creatures and she utilized her voice and resources to advocate for their rights and protection.

She is survived by her loving son, Prem Srivastava, and her cherished grandson, Shashank Srivastava. The wisdom and life lessons she imparted - values of compassion, love, respect - have been imprinted on their lives and will serve as a guiding light. Nirmala's legacy lives on, not just in her accomplishments, but in the warmth she shared, the way she loved, and the life she lived.

Nirmala Srivastava was a rare light in this world, and though her physical presence will be greatly missed, her spirit continues to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
