Nijaz (Nick)'s obituary
February 12, 1951 - December 24, 2022
Generous, funny, innovative, and always persevering. Nijaz (Nick) Habibovic passed away suddenly on December 24, 2022. Dedicated husband to Lily (Ljiljana Midzan) and loving father to Alma, Aida and Almir, was born February 12, 1951, to Muharem and Sadika Habibovic in Doboj, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Growing up one of ten siblings, Nick was curious and always searched for a better future. In his late teens he left for Germany to find employment and develop new skills. With these newfound skills, he expanded his horizons and came to Canada in 1974.
Building his foundation in Canada, Nick thrived in creating new connections with many people and found a place in the community. Through his involvement in the Croatian community, he would meet the love of his life, Lily, and swept her off her feet.
They were married 1977 and soon after started a family together welcoming Alma, Aida and Almir into the world. As a family they annually travelled to Florida, and enjoyed friends and family gatherings including barbeques, pool parties and numerous celebrations. As an entrepreneur in manufacturing, Nick gave many opportunities to others to build their own foundations in Canada.
A new meaning to life was brought to him with the birth of his grandchildren, Leyla, Alisa, Ryan, Mya and Elis, whom he loved tremendously. Through countless walks to the park, soccer games, dance recitals, hockey games and discussions around sports and Formula One car racing, he built a strong bond with each of them. This year, his dream came true with bringing his entire family to the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. His grandchildren gave him the strength to fight though illnesses over the last two decades.
He is survived by his wife Lily, his adult children Alma (Amir), Aida (Matthew) and Almir (Chayla), his grandchildren Leyla, Alisa, Ryan, Mya and Elis, his siblings Nejra, Nusret, Nusreta, Nasiha, Nisveta, Nevzeta, and Nedzad, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
